The Army Combat Fitness Test or ACFT is aimed at evaluating strength, power, endurance, and agility by the Army. This will allow the Army to move from a single-test physical testing system to the new fitness test in late 2020.
The ACFT is designed to assess balance, agility, endurance and the strength a soldier can use to keep fighting. It provides “a more holistic assessment of a soldier’s physical capability,” Col. Frost said.
The test is “gender- and age-neutral,” according to the Army. Each of the six events is given its own unique score and are all determined by a maximum time.
Of course, you can incorporate various exercises into your routine to improve your performance in ACFT events. However, it's crucial to follow official guidelines and consult with fitness professionals.
The minimum passing standard for each event can be found on our Standards page. To qualify, Soldiers must each or exceed this standard, but we know aiming to excel can lead to personal growth and increased combat and state of readiness.
The frequency that the test is conducted may vary depending on how the Army’s training and evaluation cycles are structured, so it is important to stay informed about testing timelines and requirements.
The ACFT was built to strengthen U.S. Army personnel so that may not be possible. But just because civilians can’t take the official ACFT doesn’t mean they can’t incorporate the same fitness principles and training philosophy into their next workout.
